Prof. Abdul Basit Al Khatib, President of Al-Baath University, honored Prof. Dima Suleiman, winner of the L\u2019Or\u00e9al-UNESCO Prize for emerging Arab women scientists in the Middle East for 2020, for her project \u201cMinerals resulting from the war and the effects of their pollution on biodiversity\u201d.<\/p>\n

Prof. Abdul Basit Al Khatib, President of Al-Baath University, stressed the importance of her winning among six outstanding women in the field of sciences in the Arab Mashreq countries, to be the only Syrian researcher at the level of the Arab Mashreq. He noted the great support to Syrian researchers and their achievements that we are proud of and consider them the cornerstone of upgrading the university ranking and developing the higher education and scientific research in line with the vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research . <\/p>\n

Prof. Rushdi Medawar, Dean of the Faculty of Science, pointed out the importance of research in protecting the environment from toxic elements, especially heavy metals that harm living organisms by recycling them, indicating that the university will provide the necessary equipment to conduct the laboratory analyses relevant to researches <\/p>\n

The researcher confirmed that the main objective of the research is to study the impact of metal pollution on organisms and to understand the mechanism of resistance and the collection of minerals that some living organisms follow, perhaps it would be a good solution in ridding the environment of these dangerous pollutants that affect humans in the first place . . . . . . . . . . . <\/p>\n

It should be noted that the L’Or\u00e9al-UNESCO “For Women in Science” – Arab regional program for emerging women researchers- aims to enhance the participation of young women in science in Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. This program selects and rewards outstanding young women scientists in the field of life sciences (such as biology, biochemistry, biophysics, genetics, physiology, neurosciences, biotechnologies, ecology, behavioral sciences), In addition to the physical sciences (such as physics, chemistry, petroleum engineering, mathematics, engineering sciences, information sciences, earth and universe sciences), The program annually honors six prominent young Arab women researchers for the quality of their research work and encourages them to pursue a valuable career in science in the Arab Mashreq.<\/p>\n

Prof. Adnan Sheikh Hammoud, the member of party leadership at the university branch, and Prof. Refaat Wahbi, the member of the teachers’ syndicate at the university, attended the honoring ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
