On the occasion of World Philosophy Day, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, in cooperation with the Students’ Union, holds the firs philosophical forum entitled ” Philosophy and Human Development” that lasts for two consecutive days with the participation of outstanding professors, researchers, and students. <\/p>\n

The University Vice-President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Walid Khaddam, has indicated the importance of philosophy in building a conscious human being capable of critical thinking and rational dialogue, noting that the university seeks to support the practical and intellectual activities that promote national and humanitarian values and contribute to linking the academic knowledge with the society issues, especially in light of contemporary intellectual and cultural transformations. <\/p>\n

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Prof. Mouris Al-Omer, has pointed out that the forum aims to enhance the national awareness of students, highlight the civilized side of philosophy, and promote the culture of constructive dialogue. <\/p>\n

The forum addresses a number of intellectual themes, most notably: defining the civilizational role of philosophical thought, building awareness as a basis for building the individual and building nations, the philosophical foundations for building citizenship and identity, including the concepts of responsibility, authority, civility and society. <\/p>\n

At the conclusion of the first day’s events, a number of participating students expressed their appreciation for the importance of this forum, stressing that its intellectual discussions contributed to broadening their cognitive horizons, enhancing their ability to think critically and engage in dialogue, and provided them with an opportunity to interact directly with contemporary intellectual issues that affect their university and societal reality. <\/p>\n
