The Faculty of Architecture, in cooperation with the Students Union, concluded the workshop for the fifth-year students with a closing exhibition ” Reviving the Wall and Seven Gates of the Old City of Homs” in the presence of representatives from the Directorate of Tourism and the Historical Syrian Society, academics, researchers, and those interested in heritage and urban planning.
\nIn this context, President of Homs Unniversity, Prof. Tarek Houssam ElDeen, affirmed that the exhibition embodies the university’s role in linking engineering education with heritage identity through students’ projects that offer contemporary vision of architectural memory of Homs and its historical components.
\nFor his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Prof. Abdul Rahman Hamdoun, explained that the two-day workshop aimed to integrate the fifth-year students’ projects of the architectural planning course in one plan encompassing the city wall, its seven gates, and the archeological citadel. In addition, he referred that the exhibited works presented a visual treatment that combines historical data with modern design visions to revitalize this heritage within the current urban context. For her part, Prof. Rulana Rabea, Head of the Department of Urban Planning and Regional Planning at the faculty, pointed out that the project is the result of a full semester\u2019s work, during which the students were divided into four groups that carried out field surveys and a study of the current situation before integrating the results into a unified vision that revives the wall with an integrated architectural spirit.
\nThe exhibition includes detailed plans that serve as a reference that relevant bodies can use in projects to restore and develop the historic center of Homs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
