As part of the continuous follow up, President of Homs University, Prof. Tarek Houssam ElDeen, conducted an inspection tour of Homs University Hospital, to learn about the level of medical services and assess the readiness of the departments, given the challenges facing the health sector and the promotion of integration between academic education and practical training.
Prof. Houssam ElDeen listened to a detailed presentation by Dr. Samih Khallouf, the Director of the General Authority of Homs University Hospital, in which he discussed the reality of hospital work and its role as a health and educational facility serving a wide segment of the governorate residents. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the medical, technical and nursing staff, stressing the university’s commitment to providing human cadres and coordinating with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to fill the shortage in some specialties, develop the infrastructure, and provide medicines and medical supplies in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.
He also emphasized the importance of the scientific activities and specialized lectures organized by the hospital in cooperation with local and international organizations, given their effective role in supporting medical and technical staff with the latest technologies and keeping pace with scientific developments in the areas of diagnosis and treatment.
The tour included a visit to a number of vital departments, including the emergency and radiology departments, laboratory, and outpatient clinics. Prof. Houssam ElDeen reviewed the progress of work and the availability of medical equipment. He also took a look at the malfunctioning CT scanner and instruct to repair or replace it immediately due to its importance in accurate diagnosis. In addition, he emphasized to follow up with the relevant authorities to ensure the continuity of diagnostic services.
Prof. Hussam ElDeen visited the operating rooms and checked their readiness, praising the efforts of the surgical teams. He also inspected the incubator department , as it is a vital section that requires continuous support and care. Moreover, he praised the vital role of the medical facility guards in ensuring the safety of staff, patients and visitors. Besides, he inspected the prayer room of patients and their companions, as a part of his commitment to providing an integrated humane environment that takes into account spiritual and social aspects.
During the tour, Prof. Houssam ElDeen referred to some observations regarding the cleanliness of some facilities, and confirmed the need to monitor and improve hygiene to suit the nature of healthcare work, emphasizing that hospital environment should be clean.
Furthermore, he discussed with the hospital administration the issue of regulating the number of companions within departments for its direct impact on patient comfort and work, so as to achieve balance between humanitarian aspects and the requirements of medical practice.
This tour comes as part of the university presidency’s keeness to support the university hospital and enhance its role as a pivotal medical and educational center, to provide high-quality healthcare services to citizens and advanced training environment to students.
