Homs University Hospital is committed to providing round-the-clock healthcare, as all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the readiness of medical and technical staff and the availability of necessary supplies.
Director of the General Authority of Homs University Hospital, Dr. Samih Khalouf, has emphasized that the hospital plays a pivotal role in supporting the healthcare system regarding emergency cases and specialized services, especially with the increasing number of patients and beneficiaries due to the increasing population density in Homs Governorate.
He has explained that during the first six months of 2025 the outpatient clinics and ambulance have received more than 51,000 patients, and that numerous surgical procedures have been performed in various specialties. In addition, he has indicated to the hundreds of gynecological and obstetric operations, gastrointestinal endoscopy, and medical investigations such as electroencephalography, electroneuronography, electrocardiography, and echocardiograms. Moreover, he has pointed to 1,445 dialysis sessions and about 35,000 laboratory visitors.
Dr. Khalouf has noted that the radiology department continued to provide its services, conducting more than 46,000 imaging tests, including plain x-rays, ultrasounds, and computed tomography (CT) scan. This contributed to accelerating diagnosis and improving the quality of healthcare, reflecting the hospital’s vital role as both an educational and healthcare facility.
In addition, he has referred that the shortage of nursing staff and specialist doctors is one of the most significant challenges hindering work, despite signing contract with a number of anesthesiologists, for example. He has also noted a shortage of medical supplies, some medications, ophthalmic and neurological operating rooms, and cardiac catheterizations, in addition to recurring malfunctions in medical equipment.
