The Faculty of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering held a scientific awareness lecture entitled “Strategies of occupational safety and health in chemical laboratories” within the framework of promoting the culture of occupational safety and health and raisning academic awareness among students and teaching staff, in the presence of a number of faculty members and students.
The lecture was delivered by Prof. Haider Ibrahim, in which he explained the basic concepts of occupational safety within chemical laboratories and industrial facilities in general, the most important potential hazards, their classification, and ways to prevent and control them. In addition, he reviewed the latest strategies and procedures adopted to ensure a safe working environment, which contributes to protecting students and workers and reducing laboratory accidents.
President of Homs University, Prof. Tarek Houssam ElDeen, has affirmed that the university places great importance on occupational safety and health, particularly in applied faculties, given its fundamental role in preparing students scientifically and practically according to established academic standards. In addition, he has emphasized the importance of these scientific activities in fostering a culture of awareness and responsibility within the university environment.
Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Prof. Muwaffak Talawi has stressed the faculty’s keenness to organize more scientific events that contribute to developing the educational process and achieving the requirements of quality and safety.
The lecture concluded with an open discussion with the attendees, during which students’ questions were answered and practical recommendations were provided to contribute to the effective and sustainable application of occupational safety and health concepts in chemical laboratories.
