The Faculty of Music Education at Homs University organized an artistic event on the occasion of World Music Day entitled “Eastern Maqams with the Pulse of Jazz”, on the faculty’s stage, with the participation of the university’s music band, which appeared for the first time in front of the public.
The band presented a collection of musical works that combined classical oriental style with jazz rhythms, in an artistic experiment that aimed to recreate musical heritage in a contemporary style that reflects diversity and innovation in academic performance.
President of Homs University, Prof. Tarek Houssam ElDeen, confirmed that the event comes within the university’s direction to support artistic and cultural activities, and to enhance the role of music in building awareness and cultural identity.
He pointed out that the launch of the Homs University band represents a qualitative addition to the cultural movement within the university, as it includes academic competencies specializing in the field of music, and it
is the only one at the level of Syrian universities.
For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Music Education, Prof. Azza Khalouf, explained that celebrating World Music Day reflects the civilizational role of art in promoting cultural identity and consolidating dialogue between peoples, noting that the event aims to revive musical heritage within contemporary forms closer to the public, which contributes to presenting it in a modern and effective way, stressing the faculty’s continued commitment to organizing artistic initiatives and activities that support the development of musical heritage and enhance creativity among students.
The event was attended by Prof. Walid Khaddam, Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Mr. Abdul Hamid Jandali, Head of the Homs Student Union, and a number of faculty members, students, and those interested in cultural and artistic affairs.
