The 12th local collegiate programming contest concluded yesterday at the Faculty of Informatics Engineering in Homs University. The event was attended by a large number of the members of teaching and administrative staff, as well as guests and participating students.
The contest started at the central laboratory of the faculty as the student teams competed in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and challenge for five hours, and concluded with an official ceremony held at the auditorium of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
During the ceremony, the university president, Prof. Tarek Houssam ElDeen, congratulated the teams that qualified for the national contest, noting that the contest was characterized by honesty and spirit of teamwork. In addition, he pointed out that it demonstrated the capabilities, developed the logical thinking, and honed the problem-solving skills. Prof. Houssam ElDeen has indicated that the university is not just a place for indoctrination, but rather an incubator for creativity and a platform for students to actively participate in building the future. Moreover, he has emphasized the university’s commitment to supporting such academic activities that contribute to the development of promising technical cadres.

These teams qualified to represent the university in the upcoming national programming contest.
In turn, the vice-dean for scientific affairs at the Faculkty of Informatics Engineering and the contest coordinator, Prof. Rabie Muhammed Shaheen, has explained that the contest aims to create a stimulating educational environment that develops the students’ skills in the analytical and technical thinking. In addition, he has referred that it has been characterized by an impressive level of performance and commitment, which reflects the results of the efforts made in training and qualification. He has also added that the qualification of five teams is an evidence of the students’ strengths in national contests, hoping that they will raise the name of the university and the country high in the scientific and creative excellence.
The university has organized the contest as part of its efforts to promote specialized scientific activities, consoldiate its role in supporting innovation and excellence, and contribute to the preparation of cadres capable of competing locally and internationally.
The student union played an active role in supporting the organization of the contest to ensure the right time and place for the contest. The head of the student union, Mr. Omar Hamam, has stressed the need to support outstanding students and prepare them for upcoming events at the local and international levels, pointing out that the next phase will be better for the university students after the end of the injustice imposed on them by the former union affiliated with the defunct regime.
