Homs University organized a specialized training course titled “Red marks in physical therapy” targeting the physical therapists who work in the government hospitals, to develop the medical personnel and improve performance in the public health sector.
President of Homs University, Prof. Tarek Houssam El-Deen, has emphasized the importance of this type of course which combines academic knowledge with practical experience. He has also indicated that the university is always keen to be an effective partner in developing national competencies and that the current course is to support healthcare professionals and empower them with safe diagnostic tools and sound clinical decisions for ensuring healthcare quality and patient safety.
The vice-dean for the scientific affairs at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Salah Ghazi, has pointed out that the course is part of the faculty strategy to promote continuing education and qualitative clinical training, and to develop the skills of physical therapists in recognizing the dangerous clinical signs.
For his part, the course instructor, Dr. Muhammed Abdul Latif Al-Sirwan, has explained that the course aims to shed light on “red marks” in physical therapy which are warning signs to stop therapy sessions and immediately refer the patient to a specialist doctor. Moreover, he has confirmed that Ignoring the signs can lead to dangerous adverse consequences, as sometimes the patient may think he is receiving useful treatment, when in fact, he may experience harmful complications.
In addition, he has pointed out that the course has focused on enhancing therapists’ awareness of the importance of making accurate clinical decisions, which contribute to improving the quality of medical services and raising the level of treatment safety in healthcare facilities.
