On the occasion of the pink month , Homs University has launched, in cooperation with the Syrian Society for breast cancer and the university hospital, an awareness event aimed at promoting awareness on the early detection and raising the level of health culture among students and persons of university community
The event, which is being held in front of the Faculty of Architecture and will continue until tomorrow from 11 am to 1 pm, includes introductory and educational activities about preventative measures and early detection methods, in addition to distributing awareness leaflets and organizing open dialogues with specialists. It also coincides with a free examination campaign at the early detection clinic in the university hospital, which began on October 26 and will continue for a week.
The university vice-president for scientific affairs, Prof. Walid Khaddam, has indicated that the event is part of the university’s commitment to link the academic knowledge with the community service, emphasizing the awareness role of the university in spreading health culture and encouraging students to adopt preventive behaviors that contribute to reducing the spread of breast cancer and all chronic diseases, as prevention is better than cure.
President of the Syrian Society for Breast Cancer, Prof. Zahi Al-Shawaf, has affirmed that the pink month highlights the importance of early detection of breast cancer before the appearances of clinical symptoms and that such events train women on self examination and recognizing the early signs so the suitable medical measures are taken on time and the chances of recovery are increased.
In addition, he has pointed out that the university hospitals receives women during the free campaign which lasts for a week, noting that Al-Ameen Hospital includes a free clinic for early detection of breast which provides the necessary medical consultations.
For his part, the director of Homs University Hospital, Prof. Fahd Shreibati, has explained that the free early detection campaign comes within the framework of supporting national awareness programs.
This initiative comes as part of Homs University’s commitment to supporting community health, spreading preventive health awareness, and encouraging women to undergo periodic check-ups to maintain their safety, in line with national trends aimed at fighting breast cancer and reducing its infection rates through early detection.
