As part of Homs University’s efforts to promote scientific research and develop applied skills among its students, the Faculty of Pharmacy held a specialized scientific workshop entitled: “From Discovery to Delivery: A Workshop on Biologic Therapeutics”.

“From Discovery to Delivery: A Workshop in the Field of Biological Medicines,” presented by Dr. Muhammed Tutunji, an expert in the development and manufacturing of cell and gene therapies.

The workshop covered a range of advanced scientific topics, including: identifying pharmaceutical targets and discovering active compounds, preclinical phases and trials preliminary to clinical studies, clinical development of medicines, quality assurance in manufacturing processes, licensing and approval procedures, and post-marketing drug lifecycle management.

The university’s vice president for scientific affairs, Prof. Walid Khaddam, pointed out that organizing such workshops comes within the university’s strategy aimed at linking academic education with applied research and keeping pace with global developments in pharmaceutical sciences and biotechnology, stressing the importance of enabling pharmacy students to learn about the latest trends in biological medicines, which represent the future of modern treatment.

Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Homs University, Prof. Youssef Al-Ahmad, has explained that biological medications represent an advanced generation of modern treatments. Their development differs from traditional medications, as they are designed to precisely target diseased cells, particularly in cancer treatment. Dr. Al-Ahmad also noted that the workshop reviewed the stages of medications development from discovery to licensing, allowing participants, especially fifth-year students, to learn about the latest technologies in the pharmaceutical and biological industries and benefit from global research expertise, such as the experience of a researcher in Germany

This event is part of a series of scientific activities organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy at Homs University, with the aim of enhancing students’ skills and preparing them to keep pace with developments in modern pharmaceutical industries.
