The Faculty of Architecture concluded the activities of the workshop “Memory landscape” with the participation of the fifth-year students of Homs and Hama universities and the students of Al-Wataniya Private University and in the presence of leading academics. The workshop lasted for one week and included specialized practical sessions and field visits.
The university president, Prof.Tarek Houssam ElDeen, indicated that the workshop highlighted the concept of memory and underscored the importance of preserving and documenting it for future generations, particularly the memory related to tangible heritage and the painful memory of physical and social destruction of old Homs. In addition, he pointed out that workshop outputs constitute significant research tools for future academic studies and projects.
The faculty dean, Prof. Abdul Rehman Hamdoun, explained the importance of workshop outputs and field visits that contribute to shaping ideas and developing in-depth understanding about the memory of cities and enhancing the connection with old cities in a manner that employs those concepts in the architectural plans and models.
Furthermore, he referred that the workshop opened prospects for cooperation with a number of universities, noting that the second part of the workshop will be held in next April and will include designing a model of the old city of Homs.
Moreover, the workshop trainer, Prof. Amer Azouz, from the University of Oxford, emphasized that the workshop targeted the fifth-year students of Homs University and Al-Wataniya Private University, with the purpose of connecting them with the history and memory of the city.
Prof. Rolana Rabie from the Faculty of Architecture clarified that the memory reflects the people’s close connection with their cities, stressing that the workshop has a human dimension that forms part of the identity

The participating students were divided into three groups, and each of which presented its own outputs.
