The Faculty of Architecture , in cooperation with the Engineers Syndicate – Homs Branch, held a specialized scientific lecture entitled: “The Architectural Identity of the Old City of Homs”, in the framework of promoting academic and professional awareness of the importance of preserving local urban heritage. The lecture was presented by Eng. Amer Al-Sebai, the Chairman of the Engineering Heritage Committee at the Engineers Syndicate in Homs, and was attended by a number of faculty members, students, and specialized engineers.
Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Prof. Abdul Rahman Hamdoun, has explained that this lecture is the result of the ongoing cooperation between Homs University and the Engineers Syndicate, and aims to integrate students into the job market. He has also pointed out the importance of the lecture in introducing students to the traditional architectural identity of Homs, especially that the country is in the process of reconstruction, highlighting the need to preserve its authentic features.
For his part, Eng. Amer Al-Sebai has explained that the lecture is to strengthen the university students’ sense of belonging to the syndicate and to increase their cognitive and practical awareness of architectural heritage.
In addition, he has indicated that the lecture content revolves around the old Arabic house in Homs as a model of the architectural identity of the old city.
This event is a part of a series of academic activities organized by the faculty that aim to connect the academic side with the local community and to activate the role of students and engineers in the preservation of Syrian architectural heritage.
