Homs University participates in the international project “RECONNECT Syria: Rebuilding Agricultural Research and Education” aiming to rebuild the system of scientific research and agricultural education in Syria, with the support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and in cooperation with a number of Syrian, Arab and Germany academic and research institutions.
The project involves, in addition to Homs University, Hama University, the General Commission for Scientific Agricultural Research (GCSAR), the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), the Leibniz Center for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF), Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) in Germany, as well as the University of Jordan and the Agricultural Research Policy Center in Damascus.
President of Homs University, Prof. Tarek Houssam ElDeen, has emphasized that the university participation supports the efforts of developing scientific agricultural research in Syria and enhances international academic cooperation, especially in the field of managing research data, contributing to addressing challenges that have affected the research infrastructure and scientific data over the last years.
Prof. Lina Al-Naddaf from the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, who is participating in the project on behalf of Homs University, explained that the project focuses on developing research data management methods, promoting its dissemination within international repositories, and building sustainable academic partnerships that contribute to raising the quality of scientific research and enhancing the presence of Syrian research institutions within global scientific networks.
The project includes a number of themes, most notably strengthening cooperation between Syrian and German academic and research institutions, identifying the needs of Syrian institutions in the field of research data management, developing modern concepts and methods for preserving and disseminating scientific data, supporting the preparation of future joint research projects, in addition to exploring the possibility of publishing Syrian agricultural scientific data within international repositories.
The participation of Homs University in this project comes as a confirmation of its role in expanding the horizons of international research cooperation, and enhancing its contribution to the development of the agricultural scientific research system and supporting the paths of advancing the academic and research sector in Syria.
