The Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science organized a scientific workshop entitled “Chemistry is the lifeblood”, with the participation of professors, postgraduate students, and a number of relevant faculties.
The university Vice-President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Waleed Khadam, emphasized that chemistry is one of the fundamental sciences related to the different fields of life, for its role in supporting industrial, environmental, and medical development. He also referred to the importance of scientific research and expertise change in enhancing development, supporting scientific initiatives, and broadening the horizons of researchers and students.
For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Muhammed Khaled Yazbek, indicated that the workshop addressed the pivotal daily role of chemistry in agriculture, environment, and food and pharmaceutical industries as part of the faculty’s approach to link the scientific research with reality, promote academic cooperation, and exchange expertise.
The Head of the Department of Chemistry, Prof. Thanaa Shreiteh, pointed out that the workshop included three scientific sessions covering green and sustainable chemistry, industrial chemistry, analytical techniques and their applications, as well as coordination chemistry and bio-linkage.
The workshop coordinator, Prof. Muhammed Kishi, explained that chemistry has become an applied science intertwining with the details of daily life and becoming increasingly important amid the environmental, health, energy, and industrial challenges.
The lectures addressed techniques for extracting essential oils and their applications using artificial intelligence, the preparation of metal oxides using environmentally friendly methods, the journey of molecules from nature to industry within the framework of green chemistry, fluorescence spectroscopy, the path of carbon paste towards modern electrochemical pathways, and coordination chemistry of cyclic ligands and their biological applications.
The workshop was attended by the university Vice-President for Administrative and Student Affairs, Prof. Ayman Kseibi, the Head of the Teachers’ Syndicate, Prof. Abdul Razzak Al-Soufi, and a number of professors, researchers and students.
